The farm where the mares are housed, called "Cascina Bruciacuore" (which means heartburning farm), is located in a beautiful position close to the riverside. The barns are build according with modern and confortable materials and shapes, with double stalls for foaling and every device for the best assistance including monitors. The veterinary staff is living on site 24 hrs a day. The mares are closely monitored for insemination with chilled or frozen semen giving very high pregnancy results. Green fields are available for the resident mares and foals.


SEMEN FREEZING AND BANKING

Arcadia is fully authorized from the government as a semen production and storing centre according to the EEU rules (aut.numb. TO0003C-TO0006R).The semen is cryopreserved and stored in 0.5ml straws. Each insemination dose includes 8 straws that need to be used all together (4ml of semen). Each mare is usually given 3 insemination doses (24 straws) to be able to be bred for the full season.


MARES BREEDING

Arcadia is well known worlwide for the pregnancy results (over 90% mares pregnant) with fresh, chilled or frozen semen repeatable over the last fifteen years. Infertility problems are diagnosed and treated when possible with great care. Arcadia is fully authorized by the Government to operate as an artificial insemination centre (aut.no.TO0006H) and as a breeding centre with natural cover (aut.no.TO00011E)


EMBRYO TRANSFER

Arcadia is one of the first authorized centre for equine e.t. (Aut.No.TO0002S) and has a good number of selected recipient mares available for the procedure. Many foals are born in the last years from racing mares or infertile mares with valuable pedigrees.


FOALING ASSISTANCE

The pregnant mare is carefully monitored before and after foaling with professional devices and skill. Placentitis and high risk pregnancies are followed and treated with particular attention to maximize the foaling outcome. The newborn is assisted until nursing regularly on its own.


NEONATAL CARE

The centre is equipped with an intensive care unit. Asphyxiated, premature or septicemic newborns are closely followed from the first breath. The intensive care unit is dedicated to the foals born in the our centre, which can boast a very percentage of foals born alive.


WEANING TO YEARLING

Good grass, wide paddocks and know how (feeding, angular limb deformities management, education) in this delicate step from the foal to the racehorse are essential to achieve good price at the sales first and athletic results on the track. We have shown our skills with the “Grif” Standardbred production and their presence in the group 1 races.


BREEDING SOUNDNESS EXAMINATION IN THE STALLION

After the semen collection training on the phantom, as a quiet and positive experience, the athlete horse can be evaluated to extimate the fertility and possible book of mares.


STALLION MANAGEMENT FOR THE BREEDING SEASON

Arcadia has been managing subfertile stallions like the famous Standardbred Viking Kronos (2002-2003) with the best results in terms of pregnancy results. The semen can be managed at the farm or cooled and shipped through an efficient courier network in all Europe and abroad.
